Waitrose is expanding its Tony’s Open Chain-sourced choco range!

It’s been 2+ years since Waitrose became the very first UK grocery retailer to join Tony’s Open Chain as a Mission Ally. 

Tony’s Open Chain is our sourcing model that allows other brands to source their cocoa through our supply chain, according to Tony’s Sourcing Principles! That means they trace all their cocoa from bean to bar and always pay farmers a price that enables them to earn a living income for their families. 

And now for the sweet, sweet news: *drumroll* Waitrose is expanding its range that sources its cocoa via Tony’s Open Chain from just 9 tasty choco bars to adding 6 new chocolate gift boxes and 8 festive Christmas confectionery products. That brings its total number of Tony’s Open Chain choco products to a whopping 23 chocolate products. Talk about double digits!! 🙌

You can shop the FULL range in Waitrose stores from September 21st – you’ll recognise ‘em by the big, yellow Tony’s Open Chain button on the front.

Whenever you see that button on choco products, you know that cocoa farmers were paid a price that enables them to earn a living income and invest in their productivity + farm resilience. It also signifies the work we’re doing together to tackle child labor on cocoa farms in Ghana + Côte d’Ivoire by working with communities to identify and remediate cases. And last, but certainly not least, you can chomp away happily, knowing your Waitrose choc is 99.99% deforestation-free. Heck yeah!

By continuing to grow its Tony’s Open Chain sourced range, Waitrose is helping to raise the bar and show that business can be a force for change. ‘Cause the more chocolate companies + retailers that source cocoa this way, the more we can change the industry, together.
